Five Sketches of Imirillia
In a perfect world, a world where I not only have massive amounts of time but also inhuman discipline, I would be an accomplished artist. Alas. Time is a brutal sergeant and one must make decisions. So, I am a bit of a dabbler. But. All that being said... I love illustrations from beloved books. And I love the idea of being able to capture some feeling or color or pulse from my own worlds which so vividly exist in my mind. So over the last few years, I've been dabbling. Slowly dabbling. As in, the first three sketches below I did a year and a half ago, and the last two I did in the last twelve hours. Not many, but at least a start. I would love to have an entire portfolio of sketches, in different styles and textures, of all my books. Whether that will become a reality or not is yet to be seen, but it's been fun nonetheless. So, if you've been reading the Books of Imirillia, here are five sketches. I'm curious which one you will like! I think my favorite is the fourth sketch!
The Scholar - A study of Eleanor at her table in Aemogen, examining the scrolls of Imirillia.
The Aronee Desert - A rough idea. There are many scenes from this desert of purple sand that I would love to capture.
The Afta Dar
Rest Now - This is a sketch I did this morning. I followed the lead of the painting (below) that I did last night, but allowed a richer, smoother finish.
The Trial - A bit abstract; chalky texture. I'd like to do more like this.
There you go! Hope you enjoyed.
Cheers,
Beth
